for the British marque. Where Jaguars had once been criticised for dated styling and technology, the XF was comparatively up to date both inside and out. In contrast to the old S-Type, the XF was a real challenge to competition from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and others in its premium midsize segment. For the 2012 model year, Jaguar has significantly upgraded the XF to ensure that it remains competitive.

Revealed recently at the New York International Auto Show, the 2012 Jaguar XF sedan's exterior styling has been changed to resemble that of the flagship Jaguar, the XJ. The front end styling of the 2012 XF is especially similar to that of the XJ, with both cars having similarly styled headlights, grilles, hoods, and side mirrors.

The 2012 XF is outfitted with bi-function HID xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, while the taillights also benefit from the LED treatment. For 2012, the

XF is available in three new paint colours too, and features a wheel selection that ranges from 18 to 20 inches.

Inside, the XF's front and rear seats now feature a "hoop" design on the seat base and backrest that is said to improve support. There are also new interior colour combinations and veneers available.

Technological features include a seven-inch touch-screen infotainment display and a hard-drive based satellite navigation system. The 2012 XF even offers a 17-speaker, 1,200-watt Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound system, as well as connectivity for iPods, USB devices, MP3 players and Bluetooth devices. Jaguar

says that most of the car's functions can be controlled by voice-command through the use of the company's Interactive Voice system.

Upon its New York debut, Jaguar's Design Director, Ian Callum, had the following to say about the new XF: "The XF has rightly been recognized as a quintessential Jaguar sedan. It is purposeful yet elegant, with inherent sporting intent in its design. For the latest version we have been able to evolve and enhance that performance character."

Information is scarce about when the 2012 XF will be available in Canada, but it is expected that the new midsize Jag will to come to market later this year.©(Copyright Canadian Auto Press)]]>
