Twelve new or revised Toyota and Scion models planned for 2012

2011. For the 2012 model year, the Japanese automaker plans to bring 12 new or revised models to Canada, half of which will be unveiled in the last few months of 2011.

Included in this group of six early arrivals is a model from Toyota's youth-oriented automotive brand, Scion. The Scion iQ micro-subcompact will finally be available in Canada (it debuted in 2008 as the Toyota iQ in other markets) and features a 1.3-litre engine with 94 horsepower and no less than 11 airbags.

Toyota's next-generation Yaris Hatchback will also arrive soon and features a 1.5-litre engine generating 106 horsepower. The new Yaris will compete with other subcompacts such as the Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit and Mazda 2.

Next on the list is Toyota's Camry sedan which is already on its way to dealer lots and is said to offer best-in-class fuel economy as well as "crisp handling and performance" according to Toyota. Voice-activated audio and navigation controls are also available.

The Camry Hybrid also comes to market in a few months' time and will generate the equivalent of 200 horsepower. The new Camry Hybrid is also claimed to deliver a 39 percent increase in fuel efficiency during city driving when compared to the current model.

as water-repellent materials for TRD (Toyota Racing Development) models.

Completing the list of six early-arrivals is Toyota's Prius v (yes, it's a lowercase "v" according to Toyota marketing materials). The Prius v is a crossover vehicle based on the popular Prius hybrid, and Toyota says it is the most fuel-efficient of any SUV, crossover or wagon on the market today. The Prius v benefits from a 50 percent increase in cargo capacity when compared to the regular Prius.

"We are committed to selling vehicles that inspire - fun-to-drive vehicles that go beyond the practical to the aspirational, with exciting styling and performance."
